Have you ever looked at your To Do List for the day and felt an overwhelming sense that your day is already out of control, and doomed to leave you feeling like a failure?
I do. And it’s usually because my To Do List looks more like a list of things that the average person might take 3 months to complete (if they’re lucky).
So today I came across an alternative method of daily planning, and I thought I’d share it with y’all to see your reaction(s).
Of course, I found it on YouTube (which is like the video version of Google, right?). And it was proposed by an English counsellor by the name of Olly Staniland.
Olly uses a number of journaling and planning methods to keep himself on track, but one method he uses is to carry a small pocket notebook with him at all times. In it, he writes down the 3 things he wants to complete in the day that will enable him to feel like he has crushed his goals. I guess, in simple terms, they would be 3 key things that would make him feel successful that day, when they were completed (crushed).
He also jots down thoughts/wishes/future plans that cross his mind throughout the day (he prefixes those with an exclamation mark, and reviews them weekly to see if they’re still things he plans to plan/do/achieve.
So what do you think? I’ve often heard people say that leaving a notebook and pen by your bedside is a great idea, but do you see yourself carrying a notebook around with you? (Olly’s was a $1 notebook)
And do you think you’d be able to choose just 3 critical tasks for the day to focus on? Would you feel accomplished, or start adding more into the list as you achieved previous tasks?
