The Power of Asking for Help: A Lesson in Collaboration from Barbara Hemphill

The Power of Asking for Help: A Lesson in Collaboration from Barbara Hemphill

February 18, 20251 min read

In this video, Barbara Hemphill shares a personal reflection on her entrepreneurial journey and the power of collaboration. When Barbara first started her company, she named it Barbara Hemphill Associates because she knew that no matter what she did, she couldn’t do it alone.

Barbara often jokes that her first "associate" was actually her hairdresser, as many of her early business opportunities came from connections she made while giving speeches. Reflecting on this, she is deeply grateful for the people who supported her work over the years.

Barbara reminds us that we are all part of something bigger and that we weren’t meant to do things alone. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of wisdom. It takes strength to recognize when we need support and courage to reach out for it.

Who do you need to ask for help? Don’t let pride or fear hold you back. Remember, asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

Let’s embrace collaboration and teamwork, knowing that we can accomplish far more together than we can on our own.

Andrea started her career in education before moving to work as an in-home family counselor helping troubled children and their families. Whether she knew it at the time or not, this was also the start of what would become her life's calling.

Though she found being a counselor gratifying, what called to her was the business's streamlining and organizational systems. Soon she found herself in the administrative offices and working as the operations manager. It was the perfect segue to meeting The Paper Tiger Lady. Shortly after, she graduated as one of Barbara's Certified Productive Environment Specialists™ and the rest is history!
