Barbara Hemphill often shares glimpses of her beautiful rose garden 🌹... a treasured gift from her husband, Alfred, many years ago. The garden continues to bloom with grace and beauty, standing as a symbol of hope and faith even as their home undergoes a long and sometimes challenging restoration process.
What began as a project filled with excitement has turned into a test of patience. As Barbara describes it, “The more we get into it, the more we see there are more issues.” Between the delays, unexpected costs, and constant noise, it would be easy to lose peace. Yet, in the midst of uncertainty, Barbara chooses faith.
She draws strength from the reminder that God always has a plan — one filled with goodness and purpose. Reflecting on Matthew 6:34,“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries, ”Barbara shares how that truth has helped her stay grounded and present.
When worry creeps in, Barbara practices what she calls “holy grounding.” She steps outside, places her bare feet in the grass, and takes a deep breath — thanking God for His unseen work. That simple act helps her remember that peace doesn’t come from having everything in control, but from trusting the One who is in control.
Barbara encourages others to do the same: to pause, breathe deeply, and find peace in the moment, no matter how uncertain life feels. “Even when we can’t see what God is doing,” she says, “He is always at work for our good.”
Her message is a beautiful reminder that faith is not about avoiding life’s chaos but about finding calm within it —one breath, one prayer, one step at a time.
If you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, pause for a moment. Step outside, take a deep breath, and thank God for His goodness — even in what feels unfinished.
