Have you ever taken a screenshot as a “quick reminder” and then… completely forgotten about it? You’re not alone! Screenshots pile up fast, filling up space on your phone without you even realizing it.
Today, take 10 minutes to declutter that screenshot graveyard and free up some digital (and mental) space!
Most screenshots start with good intentions—maybe it was a recipe you wanted to try, an inspirational quote that spoke to you, or a product you were considering buying. Some serve a more practical purpose, like capturing an order confirmation, event details, or funny text to share later. But once the moment passes, those images sit there, buried under newer ones, never looked at again.
Screenshots usually land in your Photos app, but don’t always stop there. Many phones automatically store them in a Screenshots album, and they can also be tucked away inside apps like Notes, Google Keep, OneDrive, or Dropbox. If you’ve ever searched for a screenshot and struggled to find it—or if Google Photos suddenly warns you, “You’re running out of storage space”—this might be why!
Since we rarely scroll through our screenshot folder, clutter can quickly build up. Taking screenshots feels quick and effortless, but they pile up quickly without a system. Unlike regular photos, we don’t think of them as memories, so they sit there, taking up storage long after they’ve served their purpose.
Today, take 10 minutes to clean them out. Delete anything outdated, unnecessary, or redundant. If a screenshot still serves a purpose, move it somewhere useful—add a recipe to your notes app, save a document where it belongs, or bookmark a website instead. If you rely on screenshots for reference, create a simple system to find them quickly when needed.
Clearing out old screenshots frees up storage and makes finding the images you need easier. And honestly? Cleaning up a digital space you never realized was cluttered is so satisfying!
What’s the oldest or weirdest screenshot you found while cleaning? Post in the comments below. Here are a few of mine.
