"Punching Hole in the Darkness"

"Punching Hole in the Darkness" | Barbara Hemphill

I recall sitting in history class in high school. There was a sign over the teacher's desk: "Those who do not learn from history are condemned to relive it." I didn't want that to be true, because I really didn't appreciate history class!

Yesterday, a colleague shared with me some information about US history that I found astounding, which substantiated that truth. On January 10, 1963 (the year I was sitting in history class!), the Congressional Record published a list of "45 Communist Goals."

When you look at what is happening in our country today -- the political atmosphere, the new fall TV shows, the statistics about family and mental health, the state of the church -- I could go on and on... you can see that the majority of those goals are happening, and many of them already have!

Several years ago, my husband received an award called "Punching Holes in the Darkness" for the training programs he did in the state government. I've always treasured the concept, and today it seems more critical than ever before.

Our pastor gave an illustration in a recent sermon about how a small candle can make a big difference in a dark room and virtually no difference in the light.

Indeed, today we are living in the dark, and I pray that wherever I go and whatever I do, I can offer a small light to the glory of God.

P.S. Here's the link to the 45 goals if you are interested: https://www.marxists.org/subject/art/literature/children/ref/gov/gov1.html
